What is the difference between formative and summative assessments?

I’m trying to understand how formative and summative assessments differ in education. Can someone explain their purposes and when each is typically used?

Formative assessments are ongoing evaluations conducted during the learning process, helping teachers provide real-time feedback and adjust instruction. Summative assessments, on the other hand, occur at the end of an instructional period, measuring students' overall achievement and performance. Both are essential for understanding and improving student progress.

A formative assessment a continuous method of evaluation used throughout learning also facilitates teachers to give instant feedback and revision of teaching.
The summative on the other hand is carried out in the end of an instructive cluster, and is used in the measurement of the overall service and accomplishment of the students.

They both play a crucial role in learning and the development of students.

The formative assessments are assessments that are conducted throughout the learning process, such as quizzes or feedback, with the purpose of enhancing the student comprehension. Summative assessments are the end of learning period tests like final tests or projects, which are aimed at measuring the overall achievement. In a nutshell, the formative teaches learning through progress, and summative measures final performance by comparison with the established standards.
