What is the difference between rows and columns?

I’m trying to understand the basic layout of tables and spreadsheets. Can someone explain how rows and columns differ and how they’re organized?

The rows are horizontal and enable the representation of individual records, whereas columns are vertical and enable the representation of the category of data or the field. Simply, rows represent values such as names or items, and the columns represent characteristics such as age or price.
