What is the difference between ethnic and universalizing religions?

Can someone explain how ethnic religions differ from universalizing religions, with a few examples of each? I'm having trouble telling them apart.

Ethnic religions are closely tied to a specific culture, location, or ethnic group, and followers are usually born into them rather than converted, such as Hinduism or Judaism. Universalizing religions, like Christianity, Islam, and Buddhism, aim to appeal to all people globally, actively seeking converts regardless of cultural or geographic background through missionary work and teaching.
