I’ve come across “dL” in some recipes and nutrition labels. Can someone explain what it stands for and how it relates to liters or milliliters?

In measurement, “dL” stands for deciliter.
  • 1 deciliter (dL) = 0.1 liters
  • It is commonly used in cooking, chemistry, and medicine to measure liquids.
Example:
  • 5 dL of water = 0.5 liters
  • 10 dL of milk = 1 liter

It’s a metric unit, part of the liter system.

The letter "dL" in measurement denotes deciliter, and this is the metric system's volume unit that is equivalent to one-tenth of a liter. Thus we can say that deciliters are equal to dL=0.1 or 100 mL. Deciliters are often the measure of volume taken in cooking, especially in some European countries, and also in a few scientific and medical contexts.

dL stands for deciliter, an abbreviation of the metric unit of volume which is equivalent to a tenth of a liter (0.1 L). It is commonly used in cooking, nutrition, and scientific notation.
