I’ve come across the term “General Learner Outcomes” in curriculum planning. Can someone explain what they are and how they guide student learning?

General Learner Outcomes (GLOs) are broad skills, attitudes, and values that students are expected to develop, such as critical thinking, communication, and collaboration. In education, they guide curriculum design, teaching strategies, and assessment to ensure students gain holistic knowledge and life skills.

GLOs are wide learning objectives that outline the intended outcome of a student, including critical thinking, communication, and personal responsibility in courses.

General Learner Outcomes are broad skills and competencies students are expected to develop, such as critical thinking, communication, ethics, and lifelong learning. Educators use them to guide curriculum design, align assessments, evaluate student progress, and ensure graduates gain transferable skills beyond subject-specific knowledge.

General Learner Outcomes (GLOs) refer to the skills and abilities that students should acquire through their education. These include critical thinking, communication, problem-solving, and becoming a responsible citizen. GLOs serve as a framework for organizing curriculum, selecting teaching methods, and designing assessments. This ensures that learning is not limited to subject knowledge but encompasses the holistic development of students.

General Learner Outcomes (GLOs) represent major (six) non-academic goals (such as complex thinking and ethical technology use). They are used mostly in Hawaii where they evaluate the character and working habits of a student independent of grades to make him a lifelong learner.
