Is the number 1 considered a prime number?

I’m a bit confused—some sources say 1 is prime, others say it’s not. Can someone clarify with a reason why or why not?

No, 1 is not considered a prime number because a prime must have exactly two distinct factors: 1 and itself.

No, 1 is not a prime number. Prime numbers are defined as having exactly two distinct positive divisors — 1 and itself. Since the number 1 has only one divisor (itself), it doesn’t meet the definition of a prime number.
