I’m trying to figure out the weight of water for a project. Can someone tell me how many pounds or kilograms 5 gallons of water would weigh?

The weight of water depends slightly on temperature, but at room temperature (about 68°F or 20°C), 1 U.S. gallon of water weighs about 8.34 pounds.

So for 5 gallons:

5×8.34=41.7 pounds5 \times 8.34 = 41.7 \text{ pounds}5×8.34=41.7 pounds
Answer: 5 gallons of water weigh approximately 41.7 pounds (18.9 kilograms) at room temperature.

Approximately 41.7 pounds (lbs) is the weight of five gallons of fresh water. This number may change a bit depending on the temperature of the water and the use of either U.S. or Imperial gallon.

Five gallons of water are heavier than 41.7 pounds or 18.9 kilograms, as one gallon of water has a weight of about 8.34 pounds (3.78 kilograms) of water at normal temperature.

Five gallons of water weigh about 41.7 pounds (18.9 kg). One gallon weighs roughly 8.34 pounds, so multiplying gives the total. The weight may slightly vary with temperature, but this is the standard estimate. This measurement is commonly used in cooking, aquariums, camping, and household water storage.
