I’m trying to figure out the weight of water for a project. Can someone tell me how many pounds or kilograms 5 gallons of water would weigh?

The weight of water depends slightly on temperature, but at room temperature (about 68°F or 20°C), 1 U.S. gallon of water weighs about 8.34 pounds.

So for 5 gallons:

5×8.34=41.7 pounds5 \times 8.34 = 41.7 \text{ pounds}5×8.34=41.7 pounds
Answer: 5 gallons of water weigh approximately 41.7 pounds (18.9 kilograms) at room temperature.
