How many US Time Zones are there?

I’m a bit confused about US Time Zones. Can someone explain how many official US Time Zones exist and which states follow them?

The United States spans six primary time zones in the contiguous states: Eastern, Central, Mountain, Pacific, Alaska, and Hawaii–Aleutian. If you include all U.S. territories (like Puerto Rico and Guam), there are more than a dozen time zones in total.
