I often travel or schedule meetings across different US Time Zones. Can someone explain an easy way to convert times from EST to PST or CST to MST?

To convert times across US time zones, simply subtract or add the hour difference depending on the Direction you are traveling: from Eastern to Central is –1 hour, from Eastern to Mountain is –2 hours and from Eastern to Pacific is –3 hours. Always verify for Daylight Savings, as this will ultimately adjust travel commitments or schedules by one hour. You also have world clocks or online converters you can use to check the differences.

It is easy to convert time zones in the US by a rule of thumb:
  • EST → CST: subtract 1 hour
  • EST → MST: subtract 2 hours
  • EST → PST: subtract 3 hours
For example, 3 PM EST is 12 PM PST. It is also fast using your phone world clock or Google.

First, to convert times between the US time zones, one has to be aware of the time zones (Eastern, Central, Mountain, Pacific). + or - the hour difference: Central: 1 hour behind Eastern, Mountain: 2 hours behind Eastern, Pacific: 3 hours behind Eastern. Give Daylight saving adjustment when necessary.
