What is Vicarious Learning?

Vicarious learning: the process of learning through watching of the other person instead of direct experience. Rather than doing something yourself, you learn through watching someone do something or bearing consequences of an action.
Example: A child learns not to touch a hot stove after seeing a sibling get burned.

Vicarious learning is acquiring knowledge or skills by observing others rather than through direct experience. Common in classrooms and workplaces, it enhances understanding, reduces trial-and-error, and builds empathy. Vicarious learning is crucial for social development, modeling behavior, and efficiently transferring knowledge in both educational and real-world settings.
