I’ve been hearing a lot about PBIS in education settings, but I’m not entirely sure what it means or how it’s used. Can someone explain what PBIS stands for and how it works in schools?

PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) is a proactive approach schools use to improve student behavior and create positive environments. It sets clear expectations, teaches appropriate behaviors, and reinforces them with rewards. Schools use data to monitor progress and support students at different levels—universal, targeted, and individualized interventions.

It emphasizes on the training of behavioral expectations, positive reinforcements and minimization of disciplinary challenges through well-defined approaches.

PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) is a framework used in schools to promote positive behavior, improve school climate, and prevent problematic behaviors. It is not a specific curriculum but a proactive, research-based approach to helping students meet behavioral and academic expectations. PBIS works by teaching, modeling, and reinforcing positive behaviors rather than focusing solely on punishment.

PBIS stands for Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports. It’s basically a system schools use to teach and reward positive behavior so students know what’s expected and classrooms run more smoothly.
