What is a trapezoid in geometry?

I want to understand the properties of a trapezoid. Can someone explain what makes a quadrilateral a trapezoid?

A trapezoid is a quadrilateral (a shape with four sides) and two parallel sides. The sides that are parallel to each other are known as the bases and the remaining two sides are known as the legs. A few of the important properties include that angles on the same side of a leg sum to 180 and the height and distance between the bases are perpendicular.

A trapezoid in geometry is a four-sided polygon with at least one pair of parallel sides. These parallel sides are called bases, and the non-parallel sides are called legs, forming a shape used in many mathematical and real-world applications.
