What is a negative plus a negative?

A negative plus a negative always results in a more negative number. When you add two negative numbers, you’re combining their values in the negative direction. For example, –3 + –5 equals –8. The result moves further left on the number line, becoming smaller (more negative) than either original value.

A negative plus a negative results in a more negative number. When you add two negative numbers, their absolute values increase, and the result is still negative. For example, -3 + (-5) = -8.

When you add a negative number to another negative number, the result is even more negative.
Example: -3 + (–5) = –8 So, negative + negative = bigger negative.
This is just like when you are in debt and take more loans – the total debt increases.
