I want to know what qualifications or degrees are required to become a Physical Education teacher at the high school level. Are there any specific certifications or training programs needed?

A Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education or other similar area, and a state teaching license/certification are usually required. Several also receive health or coaching endorsements.

To teach high school Physical Education, you typically need a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education or Kinesiology. You also need a state teaching license that involves taking competency exams and a student-teaching program. There are also numerous jobs that demand CPR/First Aid certification and certain coaching/health approval.

In order to be eligible for teaching High School Physical Education, one requires a four-year degree in physical education, kinesiology, exercise science, or an associated field. Teaching certification or license is also required. Student teaching as well as courses on child development and health education can be added as prerequisites to meet eligibility requirements for the same.

To teach high school Physical Education, you typically need a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, kinesiology, or a related field, along with a teaching license/certification for your state or country (which usually includes student teaching and passing some exams). In most places, schools won’t consider you without the license, and some may prefer or later require a master’s degree, but the bachelor’s + certification combo is the main starting point.
