I’ve seen “SX” used in some medical notes and reports. Can someone explain what it stands for and in what context it’s usually used?

In medical terminology, “SX” is an abbreviation for “symptoms.” It’s commonly used in clinical notes and documentation to describe the signs or complaints a patient presents with. For example, “flu SX” means flu symptoms. In some contexts, it may also mean “surgery” (less commonly), depending on usage.

In medical terminology, the most frequent use of sx is a short form of symptoms, which denote the experiences of a patient such as pain or fever that are patient-reported. Although it may also imply semi-xenotransplantation in more specific areas such as regenerative medicine, this is far less popular. It is also used interchangeably to imply surgeries in a surgeon note, however, this largely depends on the short hand of the concerned doctor.
