Why is Death Row called “The Green Mile” in the book of the same name?

I’m reading The Green Mile and was curious why the Death Row is referred to as “The Green Mile.” Does anyone know the reason behind this name?

The Green Mile in Stephen Kings novel of the same title refers to the Death Row as the Green Mile due to the green linoleum flooring running between the cells of the prisoners and the execution chamber. This is the last walk of the inmates, which the prisoners refer to as the Green Mile as they walk towards death.

The nickname "The Green Mile" comes from the color of the linoleum floor in the long corridor of E Block (Death Row) at Cold Mountain Penitentiary. It is the literal path condemned inmates walk to the electric chair, "Old Sparky.
