What is explicit instruction and how is it used in teaching?

Can someone explain what explicit instruction is and how it works in a teaching setting? I’ve seen the term used in various lesson plans, but I’d like to understand what makes instruction “explicit” and why it’s effective. Any examples or helpful insights would be great!

Explicit instruction is a structured, clear, and direct teaching method where concepts and skills are taught step-by-step. Teachers model tasks, provide guided practice, and offer immediate feedback. It’s used to teach new or complex material by breaking it into manageable parts, ensuring students understand each component before moving on to independent practice or application.
