What is a monomer in biology and chemistry?

I'm trying to understand what a monomer is. Can someone explain it with a simple definition and give an example of one?

A monomer is a small molecule that can bond with other similar molecules to form a polymer. In biology and chemistry, it’s like the building block — for example, amino acids are monomers that join together to make proteins, and glucose units form starch or cellulose.

A monomer is a small, basic molecular unit that can chemically bond with other similar units to form larger, complex molecules called polymers. In biology, monomers include amino acids, nucleotides, and monosaccharides, which build proteins, nucleic acids, and carbohydrates. In chemistry, monomers are the building blocks of synthetic polymers like plastics and resins.
