I recently came across the term "Dolch words" while researching reading strategies for early learners. Can someone explain what Dolch words are and why they are important in helping children learn to read?

Dolch words are a set of common sight words compiled by Edward Dolch that children are encouraged to recognize instantly without sounding them out. These words frequently appear in early reading materials and often don’t follow standard phonetic rules, making them hard to decode. Learning Dolch words helps young readers build fluency, comprehension, and confidence, as recognizing these high-frequency words allows them to focus on understanding the text rather than decoding every word.
