What are 2D shapes?

2D shapes are two-dimensional objects that are not volumetric, i.e. object shapes that are flat. They may be open or closed and they are characterized by sides and angles. Circular shapes, triangular shapes, square shapes, and rectangle shapes are popular 2D shapes. These forms are the basis of geometry and geometry is commonly applied in art, design, architecture, and in common objects.
