How do you write feet and inches with apostrophes?

I often see measurements written with symbols like 5'10". Can someone explain the correct way to write feet and inches using apostrophes and quotation marks?

The measurement is written with the use of apostrophes: the one apostrophe (′) symbolize feet, and the two apostrophes (″) symbolize inches. An example is 5 feet 10 inches which is abbreviated as 5ft10in. or invariably follow the figures immediately, without space, with the symbols.
